      Jan Völker is a professor of philosophy at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and a member of the Visual Literacy Research Program at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana.

His work explores the connections between philosophy, art, politics, psychoanalysis, and science, and includes studies of German idealism as represented by Kant and Hegel, Marx and Marxism, contemporary French philosophy as represented by Badiou, Rancière, and Nancy, psychoanalysis according to Freud and Lacan, and the philosophy of space travel.

The focus is on the investigation of a shared expression of thought in which ontology, aesthetics, art, and politics are intertwined in contemporary thinking.
